The discovery of a man ‘armed with a machete’ in the kitchen of a family home in St Helens is thought to be the reason behind a large Police response to the village earlier today (Friday).
Unconfirmed reports in to Island Echo claim that a child – a 10-year-old boy – walked into the kitchen of his home to find a stranger inside the property armed with a bladed article.
Police were called to Upper Green Road near the junction with Station Road shortly after 14:00 resulting in multiple units descending on the area. Thankfully no body was injured in the incident.
Worryingly, however, at around 16:30 this afternoon an Armed Response Vehicle silently rushed into the village alongside an unmarked dog unit, although both units stood down just 10 minutes later. It is thought the response was in connection with the earlier incident.
Just last week the village post office – only yards away from today’s incident – was robbed by a man armed with a knife.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment.
