East Cowes residents are being informed about upcoming roadworks on York Avenue next month as Island Roads undertake important work on 2 separate sections of the main road.
The work involves reconstruction of the carriageway in 2 phases.
Phase One, 6th– 17th November – will focus on the section of York Ave between Well Rd and Clarence Rd, this phase will be done under traffic lights to minimise disruption to businesses and residents alike. The duration may vary depending on what is discovered once excavations commence, as well as the weather conditions during the work.
This work is on a section that was treated at the start of our contract in 2013 with surface treatment and which now, a decade later, needs more substantial treatment to address a deterioration in the road substructure identified through recent inspections.
Phase Two, 20th Nov – 1st Dec will address similar issues in York Ave between Kent Ave and New Barn Rd. This phase will require a road closure with traffic being diverted onto Victoria Grove and Adelaide Grove.
Island Roads Construction Manager Keith Gourlay said:
“We have tried to programme each phase outside of the busy summer season and half term holiday when the roads are less busy, but we recognise that it will still cause some inconvenience for those living and travelling in the area. However, it is important work that must be done to safeguard the use of this key route and we thank people in advance for their patience.”
The diversion route during the second phase of the work will be via Victoria Grove and Adelaide Grove. Local businesses remain open and can be accessed via the diversion or on foot.
Red Funnel passengers are advised to allow more time for their journeys to and from the terminal. For any changes to bus routes or stops, please seek advice from Southern Vectis.
Emergency access and pedestrian access within the works area will be maintained throughout both phases.
Any chance of some maps for those that can’t work it out ?
Why didn’t they do it while doing the last lot which went on for months? What will they do to prevent traffic using Old Road as a bypass? How will Red Funnel freight traffic be affected (trucks won’t make the turn from Clarence Road into Ferry Road)?
In order of questions: stupidity, absolutely nothing and very badly.
If the roads were mended properly they wouldn’t re-doing so often.
Why so they can fup the rest of it..useless bunch of tossers..
Ask Keith Gourlay where are the results of the TOADS survey results of public from January are no one can get them anywhere.Covering up shocking results I suspect.
Rather than wasting money getting Island Toads to TRY
and do the works which will obviously over run due to NO
one knowing what they are doing.
Outsource the works to a mainland Company who know w
what they are doing, much cheaper for everyone in the long run.
Can we have speed cameras along adelaide Grove and Victoria Grove because the last time it was a diversion it became like Silverstone race track.Some poor person is going to get knocked down by a speeding vehicle along there 1 day. Its bad enough when there isn’t a diversion.
