The main road connecting Shanklin and Ventnor will be closed for 1 week next month due to tree felling activities at Luccombe.
As previously reported by Island Echo, The National Trust is undertaking works off the A3055 as a result of ash dieback being found in a number of trees at Luccombe Copse.
Due to the contractor’s method statements, the whole width of the highway is required in the interests of safety. This will also allow the processing of timber.
Bonchurch Road will be closed at Dunnose Bend for around a week from 14th February whilst the tree felling takes place. It means that a lengthy diversion will be in place via Whiteley Bank and Wroxall.
Access to properties will be via the diversions, with Smuggler’s Haven/Devil’s Chimney and properties south of Dunnose Bend accessing the area from the Ventnor side.
Watch out for temporary lights on the diversion route, like Great Preston Road, while Marlborough Rd is shut!
So long as all the wood is removed and destroyed unlike what was done along the Undercliff where trees were felled and the wood left lying around for several months
