Armed Police from both sides of the Solent have arrested a teenager as part of an investigation into allegations of a male in possession of a machete and making threats to kill.
The incident began sometime before 14:45 this afternoon (Thursday) when 4 specialist firearms officers from the mainland were rushed by MOD Police launch to Ryde Pier.
It’s from the pier that the 4 Armed Officers responded to Quarry Stone Close in Binstead, surrounding an upmarket residential property. Meanwhile, local crews are understood to have responded to East Cowes before then taking up position at Whippingham.
By 15:40 the mainland officers had rendezvoused with 4 local Armed Response Officers and relocated to Well Street in Ryde, where the 8 moved in on an address and swiftly arrested a 17-year-old male.
It has been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary that a 17-year-old from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and making threats to kill.
He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
This latest incident comes just 6 days after another Armed deployment in Sandown, in which a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a gun – which turned out to be a BB gun.

Socks with sandals, and those shorts? Just one of many offences committed.
In all seriousness, thank you Police for keeping us safe.
Yes, if you are going to act in a criminal manner, you need to ‘blend in.’ Bit difficult with those shorts !
LOL……crime against fashion is what is going on here….big time!!!!!!
Once upon a time in a Galaxy far, far away………. 2 Bobbies would have attended, one would have distracted machete wielding youth and the other Bobbie would smack him over the head with Truncheon. End of story.
