The driver of a VW Lupo has escaped any serious injury in a collision with a lorry on Briddlesford Road near Havenstreet this evening (Wednesday).
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently checking over the driver of the 2005 Lupo, which is understood to have been hit side-on by an articulated lorry.
Amazingly, the driver was able to free himself from the wreckage.
The incident has occurred at the junction with Lynn Cross – half way between Downend and Wootton.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst the scene is cleared but the road is expected to re-open shortly.
The lorry has already been allowed on its way.

The number of times cars have pulled out in front of me at that junction, whilst traveling along Briddlesford road is not at all unusual, why?, Vision is reasonably good in both directions. Maybe misjudging the speed of approaching traffic . Just glad nobody was badly hurt. So approach that junction with caution.
So glad perfect drivers like you are on the Island Roads.
There are many good careful drivers on the island. There are of course exceptions, and with the comment that you make, it looks like you may be one of them
How can you say visibility is good looking back towards Wootton, it’s terrible! About time the hedges were beat right back before someone is not so lucky!!
I said that the visibility was reasonably good. It depends what junction out of the two you are talking about about. I agree the one towards Lynbottom is much more difficult. Maybe ive got the wrong junction.
Yeah ,a bit of pruning on that side would not go amiss.
If they cut the bushes back, even less drivers would stop and actually look both ways, One does not need to be able to see, until they are at the actual junction. Correct road position and indicating which way they are turning. Being a national speed limit, one needs to look and THINK
Depends which junction, the southern one does NOT have good visibility if coming out from Havenstreet
More idiots will be along soon…
Don’t assume it was the lorry drivers fault , don’t comment on something u don’t know anything about .

And why the traffic lights??? Just to let 1 van in out per day? Job’s worth…
More bad driving on the IW
Yet another driver that did not stop and look…. They should actually put a stop sign on that side road. Briddlesford is national speed limit there, lucky it was a lorry, not a motorcycle.
I have not noticed very many GOOD drivers at all, ‘ KNOW IT ALL…’ maybe you just drive once a month .. if at all.
