EXCLUSIVE: A Southern Vectis bus driver had a lucky escape yesterday (Tuesday) when a rock was thrown through the windscreen of a Route 4 bus in East Cowes.
The incident occurred at 14:15 near to Barton Manor when out of no where a rock was hurtled at the windscreen, causing a large hole to appear and the driver, who is being hailed a hero, to become showered in broken glass from the internal rear view mirror.
This photograph, sent in by Island Echo reader Sarah Taylor, shows how the large object landed just inches away from the driver near to the ticket machine.
Despite the shocking incident, the unknown driver continued to the Prince of Wales pub to stop safely before escorting his passengers from the bus and onto a replacement number 5 once it had arrived. Thankfully, no one was injured by the callous and unprovoked attack.
UPDATE @ 11:45 – It is understood that the large object was thrown into the glass by an oncoming vehicle passing over the rock.
