Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club enjoyed a successful day on the water at its home regatta, securing 4 race victories alongside a string of podium finishes across junior and senior events.
One of the standout performances came in the Men’s Novice Four, where James Travers, Simon Nevitt, Tobin Green and Digby Ridgewell, coxed by Esme Walters, produced a dominant display from start to finish.
The crew took an early lead and maintained control throughout the race, crossing the line 3 lengths clear of their rivals.
Just 10 minutes later, Digby Ridgewell secured his second win of the day by taking victory in the J16 Sculls event to complete an impressive double gold performance.
Another victory followed for the J16 Boys’ Quad crew of Alex Collier, James Travers, Sam Meadowcroft and Digby Ridgewell, coxed by Paul, who delivered another commanding race to add to the club’s medal tally.
The Men’s Junior Pair of Isaac King and Fin Diffey were narrowly denied victory after a closely fought race against Poole, losing by just a canvas.
In the Ladies Senior Four, Anna Scott, Esme Walters, Kayleigh Batchelor and Emily Faithfull, coxed by Stella Gamble, came together at short notice but still delivered a strong performance to finish second, just 2 lengths behind the winners.
Shanklin Sandown also fielded 2 J14 Quad crews during the regatta.
The Boys’ Quad of Evan Back, Louie Laidler-Jones, Josh Bachelor and Alex Collier, coxed by Paul, secured victory by 2 lengths over the opposition. At least one member of the winning crew was making their competitive rowing debut.
The Girls’ J14 Quad also impressed, finishing second by 3 lengths in what was a first competitive race for several members of the junior squad.
Elsewhere, Martha Eggleton claimed third place in the Ladies Novice Sculls on her competitive debut, while Rose Collier secured third in the J16 Sculls event.
Across the regatta, the club recorded numerous additional second and third-place finishes as crews continued a strong season in front of a supportive home crowd.
