Islanders are once again being invited to join the big switch-on of the Long Lane Christmas lights display in Newport, which will take place slightly earlier this year on Saturday 25th November at 18:00 – 2 weeks today. Terry and Sue Ramplin have been lighting up their house at 68 Long Lane for over 23 years now, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process. Since 2014 alone, the couple have handed out a staggering £38,879 to local good causes. The switch on will see Wight Diamonds Marching Band playing festive tunes from 17:45, with hot drinks available to purchase. Santa will switch on the lights at 18:00 sharp. This year’s chosen charity is IW Prostate Cancer Support Group, which has benefitted from monies raised in previous years. The lives of around 30 men were expected to be saved thanks to funds raised by the Ramplin’s display in 2022. Long Lane is of course taking part in this year’s Light up the Wight, brought to you by Island Echo and sponsored by Southern Vectis. From Friday 1st December you will be able to download the map to help guide you to the best Christmas Lights displays on the Isle of Wight. You will also be able to vote for your favourite at www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas.

Probably the only Christmas light show i won’t be taking my children too. Whilst I’m all for him having a donation buckets around, to stand there and demand an admission fee is disgusting behaviour. If he wants to charge people to enter I hope he has all the relevant insurances.
BAHHH HUMBUG!!!!!!!
Miserable tight arse git.
Not demanding, nobody is forcing you to go, if you wish to have a closer look on the premises why should you not want to pay? This is done for charity! Not personal gain.
I am afraid you are the loser by your comment.
Merry Xmas.
Another I expect, whose children are bought up on tax credits, now (universal credits) has had cheap or free rent and council tax, free school meals, uniforms, transportation to school, free prescriptions and free dental care for the WHOLE family, extra money if as many do, they have a syndrome, then free car, parking space, etc.
So, point being the more they are given free, the more, as we see daily in society, the more they ‘expect’.
They are led to believe by littering up society with benefit clones the world then owes them a living, and sadly atm they get it, and a good one at that.
The benefits are spent on bling, not the kids, then they whine and get mugs to donate food, and toys, whilst they drink, drug, spray tans etc
Bah humbug. Ive Searle is Scrooge. Hateful and full of misery. Maybe this Christmas you will be visited by three ghosts and your life will be transformed so you will see the goodness in the world.
Well done great cause, if it wasn’t for the Prostate group I probably would not be here now hope they raise lots of money.
