A group of Bembridge residents have joined forces with a local landowner to revitalise The Point, with work beginning this week to clear concrete blocks and reopen the area to the public.
The project aims to transform The Point – also known as Silver Sands – into a community-first destination, offering wellness activities, access to the beach, and local food and drink.
It has been confirmed that a new pay-and-display car park will be created, improving accessibility. Work on this will begin immediately.
This comes following a controversy in August last year when travellers became trapped at the site after the landowner installed concrete bollards. That event led to national press coverage and sparked debate over access rights and land use.
It has been revealed this week that plans for the area include water-based activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding, operated by local partners, as well as wellness sessions led by Slomo Wellness. Local vendors are also expected to join the project, offering refreshments and meals sourced from around the Isle of Wight.
Organisers say the overall goal is to breathe new life into the coastal site while keeping it inclusive and accessible to both residents and visitors.
Slomo Bembridge will open from Thursday 4th July and operate throughout July and August, Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00-18:00.
The latest addition to the Slomo family, the Bembridge site will feature wood-fired Nordic saunas, a 6-person ice bath, and a serene coastal setup.
Josie and Rob Da Bank, Slomo founders, have said:
“As soon as we saw The Point, we knew it was the perfect location for a spot of contrast therapy! Wonderful sea views and wild swimming opportunities, a lovely flat piece of land for our saunas and trademark six-person ice bath, and right next to beautiful Bembridge with all its fantastic cafés, shops and community vibes.
“To open a second space on the Isle of Wight makes a lot of sense to us as adopted islanders and lovers of all things seaside. Roll on the 4th July!”
Isn’t it free access to a public beach anyway?
Sounds good to me
