EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: LIZ TRUSS ARRIVES ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT IN BID TO SECURE LOCAL TORY BACKING

Could this woman be the next Prime Minister? Liz Truss has arrived on the Isle of Wight in a bid to secure votes from local Conservative members as she vies to become the next leader of the Conservative Party and the country.

The Foreign Secretary is giving a talk to members of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association at the Island Riding Centre on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon (Friday). She will be hoping to win the support of Islanders as she goes up against Rishi Sunak, who will be on the Island tomorrow (Saturday).

Secrecy has surrounded the visit and there has been no press call – unlike when Boris Johnson visited the Isle of Wight in 2019 and posed in front of the Union Jack building in East Cowes. Liz also visited Wight Shipyard today but with any fanfare.

However, Liz was more than happy to wave to a small crowd when she arrived on the Island via hovercraft earlier on, touching down at Ryde at 14:15.

Hustings are taking place across the country as Truss and Sunak both work to secure vital votes from Party members, with Liz Truss the current favourite to lead the country forward. Last night she said that a recession is ‘not inevitable’ if ‘bold’ action is taken, suggesting that big changes are afoot if she gets into power.

Rishi Sunak will be in the Sandown area at lunchtime tomorrow – but can he win over the Island’s Tory membership?

The new leader will be announced on 5th September.

I’m afraid you’re right, Ed. If this toxic woman gets the leadership, we won’t have an NHS anymore. It will be fully destroyed and replaced by an American owned agency. They’ve been nibbling away at for years now – this will be the final straw. So sad.

Indeed hospitals as self funding businesses! pay as you’re treated!
Tories selling off the family silver just like British gas railways etc etc
Even then we’ll have to pay NI to fund the labour voting lifestyle benifit scroungers!

I hope so, only the low life get everything for free now. The NHS are overpaid and many are lazy, especially in the mental health areas where cash has been poured in, and people on massive salaries do very very little I know for a fact.

Profits for friends and family. If you can’t afford it, too bad. Have you or anyone you know tried to get an NHS dentist recently? That’s the way healthcare is shifting.

It’s the obsession with “small state” and “low taxes”. They simply don’t want to afford the NHS. Or Social Care, Or basic ameniteis like public transport, essential utilities, local democracy …

She’ll want to avoid most people who work for a living, to be honest.

The Tories are the party of the wealthy and the retired.

I am retired after 55 years of work and the Tories are definitely not my party, so less of the stereotyping.

Just because you don’t support the Conservative Party doesn’t change the fact that their core voter demographic, particular on the Isle of Wight, is the wealthy and the elderly, because it certainly is.

I would say avoid most people over here. I don’t think Thatchers visit will go well, oh sorry Truss. Still it will be all back round to Bobs for half a sausage and a glass of Thatchers.

How PC of her to come over on a hovercraft, surely not a photo opportunity stunt. How many other passengers were allowed on, or was it restricted to her and her security detail?

If E.T. gets the highest job in the land that a civvy can, then I can’t wait for her to ask The Queen permission to form a government. In 1994 the politico advocated abolishing the Monarchy! Just what, exactly, do the Tories want to conserve in Britain? Apart from their ill-gotten wealth. For balance, t’other side sold out years ago.

Racism works both ways actually. I used to know Pakistanis and East Europeans who were very, very racist to the British born and bred. Regards.

if I remember rightly they smashed into Jeremy for his younger years ideas of abolishment of the crown with a huge media smear in the papers , what is the difference , other than Jeremy was genuinely for the people of the uk , truss who knows what she stands for I don’t think she even knows herself

Even her friends described her as, ‘Mad, bad, and dangerous to know.’ They borrowed the quote from Byron’s friends, I think. Not half as talented as he, and where he was clubfooted (and an excellent swimmer), she is hamfisted and a sinking Jonah. So no hope for us….

She is a gross violation of our sovereignty much the same as her predecessor, Not even a general election for this halfwit , no wonder the UK is a joke on the global arena, A democracy would have a general election
