Ventnor Lions Club has very generously donated a new bladder scanner to Luccombe Ward at St Mary’s Hospital.
The scanner, worth approximately £7,000, was recently presented to the ward by the Ventnor Lions president Phil Holland and Dick Walters, a member of Ventnor Lions Club for over 40 years.
Luccombe Ward Sister, Heidi Meekins said:
“We are incredibly grateful, this new equipment will make such a difference to patients and staff on the ward.
“Having this scanner will mean we can quickly check to see if a patient might be unable to empty their bladder. It will help to avoid unnecessary catheterisations as well as preventing patients suffering from further complications as a result.”
Phil Holland said:
“We are delighted to be able to support the island’s NHS through these donations and knowing the difference it will make to patients.”

Why do we bother paying our taxes if the local council or Government cannot
buy such equipment. It should not be left to other organisations having to raise money
for much needed equipment.
