Hundreds of homes in the South Wight have been left without power tonight (Monday) as the thunderstorm passes over the Isle of Wight.
95 postcode areas have been left without power in the Roud, Wroxall, Upper Ventnor and Godshill areas. It’s thought to be as a result of an electricity pole being struck by lightning.
The outage was recorded at 21:43 with engineers expected to have supplies restored by around 01:00 tomorrow morning.
A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said:
“We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can. If you need more information, please call us on 105 or send a message through Facebook or Twitter.

Heard the lightening strike seconds before the power went out, it was incredibly loud and sounded like an explosion, you could clearly hear it hit something
Got the candles going now 😀
Lightning may soon be the only electricity we can afford. May end up attaching our tv plug to a helium filled balloon to watch for free next storm.
Ps a joke before some whinging do good fool lists the obvious dangers
Laughed my head off at this comments, made my day. Thank you.
They did a very good job ,we we’re only without power for less than 2 hours.
It was pretty ghastly out there .
If S.S.E was to spend extra money in putting ducting underground with the cable inserted inside you would not have this problem
but as we all know it is cost cutting by SSE and more sweetners to the shareholders when will they ever learn
