Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to assist a 34ft charter angling vessel that had broken down 5 nautical miles from Bembridge Ledge earlier today (Wednesday).
The lifeboat trundled down the slipway at 15:30 this afternoon at the request of Solent Coastguard following reports that a fishing vessel with 5 persons on board had broke down.
Although there was an Easterly swell running, the volunteer lifeboat crew reached the vessel at 15:45.
Having assessed the situation, the lifeboat crew concluded that the only option was to tow the casualty vessel to the mooring off the Offshore Boathouse as the tide was ebbing and there was not enough water to get her safely into Bembridge Harbour.
Once successfully moored up, the crew and anglers were transferred to the Alfred Albert Williams which was recovered by 17:39.
