The Island’s MP Andrew Turner has spoken about his hopes for Britain’s future following the EU referendum on 23rd June, and the potential a leave vote would have.
Mr Turner believes the ‘Leave’ campaign should become ‘Project Hope’ and that EU red tape is currently threatening British successes, for example its entrepreneurial achievements.
Speaking recently to Conservative Party members on the Island he highlighted that one of the EU’s faults is that it is difficult to constantly reach a consensus with all 28 Member States. By cutting the EU’s red tape, Mr Turner believes the UK would be able to realise its potential as one of the world’s strongest economies.
Mr Turner, said:
“Schengen is collapsing with more member states closing their boarders to try to deal with the migrant crisis. But a proper solution does not seem to be close. The EU needs repair but its president, Jean-Claude Juncker, is unwilling or unable to fix it.
“Of course the 28 Member States constantly need to reach a consensus and find a solution that fits everyone. That underlying philosophy, that one law should fit all Member States, often causes problems for the UK. Currently it threatens the future of our successful private ports, because most ports in Europe are state-owned.
“The EU threatens our success in other areas too. London is the most attractive capital in the world for investment, banking and innovative start-ups. The UK is a world leader when it comes to its top universities and the armed forces. Imagine the possibilities if we could cut the red-tape that the EU has created!
“The ‘Remain’ campaign has been labelled Project Fear. I think the “Leave’ campaign must do more to make us Project Hope. And demonstrate that we can build a UK that would be freer, fairer and better off outside the EU.”
