This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 16th May – Friday 20th May 2022
• Kerry Martin, 46, of Riboleau Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to drink driving (84). She was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay 385 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Anthony Serjent, 43, of Fort Street in Sandown, pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £34 surcharge.
• Benjamin Gothard-Smith, 40, of Hunnyhill in Newport, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop. He was ordered to pay a £40 fine, £165 compensation and £85 costs, as well as a £34 surcharge.
• Rosalynde Josephine Pitcher, 28, of High Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to 2 charges of assaulting an emergency worker. She was fined a total of £200 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £34 surcharge.
• Michael Bunce, 44, of Barton Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days. He was also ordered to pay £15 compensation.
• Dennis Sinfield, 74, of Youngwoods Way in Alverstone Garden Village pleaded guilty to drink driving (47). He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £50 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge.
• Angie Holroyd, 44, of Queens Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drink driving (62) and theft from a shop. She was banned from driving for 17 months, fined a total of £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Hayden Sutton, 18, of Squirrel Close in Newport, pleaded guilty to drink driving (61). He was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £230 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Jason Stone, 37, of Ninian Road in Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to drink driving (82). He was banned from driving for 21 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• John Edmunds, 54, of Barton Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit. He was given 10 penalty points on his licence, fined £108 and ordered to pay £350 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Harry Gaskin, 21, of Avenue Road in Sandown pleaded guilty to assault by beating. He was fined £100 and ordered to complete a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days. He must also pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
• Martin Wheeler, 35, of Avenue Road in Sandown, pleaded guilty to drug driving (cannabis). He was given a 12-month driving ban, fined £333 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Killeyan Butler, 24, of Oak Vale in Oakfield, Ryde pleaded guilty to drug driving (cannabis) and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis). He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £80 and ordered to pay £50 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Bruno Borges, 34, care of Queens Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker and using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days attached. He was ordered to pay a £153 fine, £100 compensation and £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Steven Summers, 62, of Silcombe Lane in Freshwater, pleaded guilty to drink driving (59). He was banned from the roads for 12 months, ordered to pay a £120 fine as well as £50 costs and a £34 surcharge.
• Daniel McGeady, 55, a coach driver of Pope Road in Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to drink driving (51). He was disqualified for 14 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £50 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Joseph Hughes, 35, of Clarence Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to common assault. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days attached. He was also fined £120 and told to pay £85 costs.

Maybe he was just sat in it with the keys on him, technically if you have the keys you are in charge of it
Because the offence of being in charge of a vehicle whilst over the limit does not carry an automatic driving ban whereas the offence of driving whilst over the limit does…
Usually that means he had the keys but was not driving
