This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 15th May – Friday 19th May 2023
• Robert Berry, 31, of West Street in Ventnor was fined £130 for the offences of drug driving after his community order was revoked on the ground that the unpaid work requirement had become unworkable.
• Steven Michael Smith, 41, of Badgers Walk in Newport, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order, by failing to comply with the unpaid work requirement. The order was revoked and he was fined £350 for the original offence of drink driving and ordered to pay £60 costs.
• Lewis Michael Fleming, 32, of York Avenue in East Cowes was found guilty of being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst drunk (115). He was given 10 points on his licence, fined £727 and ordered to pay £650 costs with a £73 surcharge.
• Reece Judge, 21, of Collards Close, Freshwater pleaded guilty to assault by beating. His suspended sentence of 12 weeks suspended for 12 months was imposed as a sentence of 10 weeks in prison. The community order previously given was revoked. He was ordered to pay £154 surcharge.
• Kelvin Parker, 31, of 9 Footways, Wootton pleaded guilty to obstruct/resist a constable in execution of duty. He was handed a 12-month community order with 40 hours unpaid work attached. He was ordered to pay £85 costs.
• Aaron Rooke, 43, of Green Street, Ryde pleaded guilty to theft from a shop. He was fined £80 – but his suspended sentence was not activated, but a further 3-month drug rehabilitation requirement was added.
• Simon Dalley, 34, of Stainers Close, Ryde, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was ordered to pay £1,750 compensation.
• Jake Allen, 21, of Acorn Gardens, East Cowes pleaded guilty to assault by beating, assault by beating of an emergency worker and common assault. He was made subject to a 12-month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation days attached. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation.

• Aaron Richards, 36, of New Street in Newport for failing to comply with the requirements of a community order x2.





























































































“….was found guilty of being in charge of a motor vehicle”. I do that almost (!) every time I get in my car and didn’t know I could be fined for it. Maybe he was drunk as well.
Surely the IE reporter has not missed out the word “drunk ” from the report of the third case?
That would have meant that the report made sense.
