This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 14th March – Friday 18th March 2022
• Kelvin Parker, 30, of Barton Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to common assault. He was given a 6-month conditional discharge with the court taking into account the fact that Parker is on a suspended sentence for offences arising from the same incident. He was ordered to pay a £22 surcharge.
• Matthew Reeves, 28, of Swanmore Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after a road accident, causing a vehicle to be left in a dangerous position and driving without due care and attention. He was handed a 12-month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work, as well as being handed 10 penalty points on his licence. He was also ordered to pay £125 compensation.
• Mark Beale, 45, of Princes Way in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and obstructing/resisting a constable. He was fined a total of £300 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £34 surcharge.
• Bleddyn Horne, 36, of Lon Y Tresglen, Caerphilly in Wales, pleaded guilty to drink driving (54) and driving without insurance. He was disqualified from driving for 40 months, fined £1,333 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £133 surcharge.
• Billy Chillcott, 27, of Green Street in Ryde, pleased guilty to possession of a pruning saw and a patio knife, as well as possession of a Class A drug – cocaine. Chillcott was handed a 6-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered t complete 6 months of drug rehabilitation with 20 rehabilitation days attached. He was also fined £40 and ordered to pay £128 surcharge in instalments of £20.
• Jamie Evans, 52, of Butler Gardens in Shanklin, was found guilty of breaching a criminal behaviour order and common assault. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
• Emma James, 37, of Newport Road in Ventnor, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. She was made subject to an 18-month community order with a 6-month drug rehabilitation requirements and 20 rehabilitation days attached. James was also fined £30 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• James Smith, 38, of Station Avenue in Sandown, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. He was made subject to an 18-month community order with a 3-month curfew and a 6-month drug rehabilitation requirements, alongside 20 rehabilitation days. He was ordered to pay £85 costs with a £95 surcharge.
• James Anthony Glover, 50, of Fort Street in Sandown, admitted breaching the requirements of a community order. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £60.
• Wayne Paulson, 29, of Staplers Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress, as well as 1 charge of using threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and a charge of sending by public communication network an offensive/indecent/obscene/menacing message. He was handed a 15-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation days and pay £85 costs.
