This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

• Timothy Young, 57, of Grange Road, Shanklin – committed theft from Boots in Newport on 7 October. He pleaded guilty and received no separate penalty. On 25 September he stole items worth £29.75 from Sainsbury’s in Ryde and was sentenced to 4 weeks in prison. On 4 October he stole £76 worth of goods from Boots in Newport and received a concurrent 4-week prison sentence. On 5 October he stole items worth £10.35 from Tesco Express in Ventnor and was sentenced to 4 weeks in prison, concurrent. On 20 September he stole £378 of goods from B&Q in Newport and £35.69 of goods from Tesco Express, also in Newport. He received no separate penalty for these offences. He also failed to attend an assessment following a drugs test on 25 June and was given no separate penalty. On 2 July he stole food and drink from Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin. This offence activated a suspended sentence and he was committed to 4 months’ custody.
• Roxanne Findlay, 33, of Sunset Close, Freshwater – stole a four-pack of Thatcher’s Gold cider and a four-pack of Kronenbourg beer worth £12 from Co-Op in Freshwater on 1 September. She pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay £12 compensation. She also stole meat and dog food worth £57.45 from Sainsbury’s in Freshwater on 26 July, and was ordered to pay £57.45 compensation. On 5 September she stole cider, beer, and a tube of Pringles worth £23 from Co-Op in Freshwater. She was ordered to pay £23 compensation.
• Richard Long, 34, of no fixed abode, Ventnor – failed to notify police of a change of address as required under the Sex Offenders Register on 26 May. He pleaded guilty and was given a community order including 150 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days.
• Andrew Baxman, 62, of Fox Place, Carisbrooke – failed to stop after a road accident in Pyle Street, Newport on 9 April. He pleaded guilty and was fined £569, with £85 costs, a £228 surcharge, and 5 penalty points. He also failed to report the same accident and received no separate penalty.
• Amber Banham-Gage, 23, of Barton Road, Newport – stole a bottle of Stella worth £2.75 from Tesco Express in Newport on 9 September and £55 of cosmetics from Boots in Bembridge on 2 September. She pleaded guilty and received no separate penalty. She also assaulted Lachen Downs in Newport on 12 October and was sentenced to 2 weeks in prison.
• Kevin Nixon, 64, of Melville Street, Sandown – recorded a person doing a private act for sexual gratification between 1 August and 26 October 2023 in Sandown. He pleaded guilty and received a 16-week suspended prison sentence, 25 rehabilitation activity days, a 7-year notification requirement, and a restraining order until 16 October 2027. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 surcharge.
• Ronnie Williams, 19, of Priory Road, Shanklin – damaged a glass door worth £282 at Spice of India in Ryde on 1 September 2024. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay £634 compensation and £85 costs. He also used threatening or abusive behaviour on the same day in Ryde and received no separate penalty.
• Sharnie Dyer, 32, of West View, Newport – assaulted Jessica Targett by beating in Newport on 29 March. She pleaded guilty and was fined £120, with £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
• Eamonn Loughlin, 31, of Mitchell Avenue, Ventnor – assaulted Richard Harrison by beating in Ryde on 17 May 2024. He pleaded guilty and was given a community order with 150 hours of unpaid work, 20 rehabilitation days, and was ordered to pay £200 compensation, a £120 fine, £200 costs, and a £114 surcharge.
• Kieran Rainford, 42, of Parker House, Centenary Plaza, Southampton – possessed cocaine in Newport on 22 June. He pleaded guilty and was fined £120, with £85 costs, a £48 surcharge, and an order for the drug to be forfeited and destroyed.
• Nathan Bett, 39, of St Johns Wood Road, Ryde – drove while disqualified in Ryde on 6 June. He pleaded guilty and was given a community order with 12 months of mental health treatment, 20 rehabilitation days, and was disqualified from driving for 29 months. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs.
• Daniel Jackson, 21, of Nightingale Road, Newport – drove without due care and attention on Medina Way, Newport on 11 August 2023. He was found guilty and fined £400, with £650 costs, a £160 surcharge, and 5 penalty points. He was not disqualified due to mitigating circumstances. He was also found guilty of driving with incorrect or obscured number plates and received no separate penalty.
• Dougal Gwilliam, 19, of Prospect Road, Newport – used threatening or abusive behaviour in Newport on 1 December 2024 and received no separate penalty. He also assaulted Xavier Peach by beating on the same date and was given a community order with 15 rehabilitation days and ordered to pay £50 compensation and a £114 surcharge. On 3 May 2025 he jointly assaulted Bradley Kevin Hatch by beating in Newport and was given a further community order with 15 rehabilitation days and £50 compensation. On 20 March 2025 he racially abused Farhan Ali and was given an uplifted 18-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days and £100 compensation.
