UPDATED: High winds and heavy rain have resulted in a large tree falling and blocking Green Lane in Lake tonight (Monday).
The unexpected adverse weather is taking its toll on the Island and has resulted in Hovertravel services being suspended between Ryde and Southsea.
Green Lane has been completely blocked by the fallen tree, which has also brought down telephone lines supplying nearby properties. Earlier this evening a section of tree blocked half the carriageway on Beaper Shute, Ryde but has since been cleared.
Winds at The Needles Old Battery in the West Wight have reached 47knots – Force 9.
Meanwhile, on St Thomas’ Street in Ryde, firefighters are pumping flood water out of a residential property.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Met Office has not issued any weather warnings for the South.
UPDATE @ 23:00 – Contractors are working to clear the tree from Green Lane, whilst engineers from BT Openreach assess the damage to resident’s telephone lines.
In Chale, a tree is blocking the carriageway on Appleford Road. Motorists should find an alternative route.
