A large scale, multi-agency search for a person potentially in the water off Ryde has concluded this morning (Friday) following several hours of searching overnight.
Coastguard Rescue 175, Ryde Inshore Rescue, Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue and local Coastguard Rescue Teams, as well as Police, were all involved in the incident, which began during the early hours.
It’s understood that a person was seen entering the sea at Ryde, sparking concerns for their welfare.
The Lee-on-Solent based helicopter swept up and down the coast between Gurnard and Ryde, with lifeboats on the water. Meanwhile, Coastguard Rescue Officers conducted searches along the shoreline.
By 05:00 the search had been called off with nothing found.
