A Police cordon has been erected around a flat at Woodbine Close in Newport as detectives launch an investigation into an ‘unexplained’ incident.
Multiple Police officers attended the address shortly before 14:30 this afternoon (Monday) with a number of detectives from Newport CID also deployed to the residential estate.
A cordon was then erected outside the property at the centre of today’s investigation, but it remains unclear tonight what exactly has happened.
Door to door enquiries have been taking place with local residents asked to call 999 if they see a man that is being sought by Police in relation to their ongoing investigation.
Police officers remain outside the property this evening and are likely to be on scene into tomorrow.
Island Echo has approached Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary for a statement.
UPDATE 23:00 – Police have confirmed that they have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body.

Another cracking Woodbine Close resident maybe, when they’re not hitting kids on buses, or beating up toddlers at home, or shouting racist abuse outside, or openly smoking drugs…
Alright Colin, it’s not THAT bad
Woodbine Close again. What a surprise.
Omg what is going on? It’s not just here mainland too! Think the whole country has gone mad? It’s always bad news nothing lighthearted and funny. Tired of reading all this crap.
Who thought Woodbine was a good name for a road? Perhaps Tennant’s Crescent will feature in the next batch of affordable housing.
Just for information :
Woodbine Close was named after Woodbine Villas, which has been there since 1848, before that stood Woodbine Cottage, which stood at the entrance to an old brickworks, hence the name of the other flats, Brick field Court. The ,then, councillor Mr Cunningham thought it was a sensible choice, ( rather than naming it after one of our illustrious councillors).
Whatever the name of a street, it’s a sad time when a life is lost, for whatever reason.
Respect,!
This is awful, comments of the close rather than what’s happened again. Clearly you all have to much time on your hands. Disgusting some of the comments after things happen….if there’s a crash it’s the driver or drugs/alcohol maybe you should join the police force and then you could put on a uniform and do nothing about these serious crimes!! People murdered and stabbed most weeks now! No deterrent!! All the police do is say they have no evidence!! They will if it’s a rich, famous person but not just joe public who pay for them!!!! The dodgy little ass holes running run with knives need consequences as obvious that they aren’t scared of the police!! Go to France or Germany they’d be scared as they mean business! Poor woman who ever it is
