UPDATED WITH VIDEO: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a large barn fire at Green Lane Farm in Ashey near Ryde this afternoon (Monday).
Appliances from Ryde, Newport, Sandown and Shanklin are in attendance at the farm, alongside the Incident Command Unit from Newport, the Incident Support Unit from East Cowes and a water carrier from Ventnor.
Around 300 hay bales are said to be alight, with flames shooting out of the roof of the barn. It is unknown if any animals – cows – have been involved.
Emergency services were called to the scene at just before 14:55.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – Green Lane has been closed by Police as firefighters continue to battle the blaze.
This latest incident comes less than 2 months after another fire at Green Lane Farm.
UPDATE @ 16:44 – The incident has been scaled back as darkness falls with many appliances returning to station. The fire has been contained to one area.
Unfortunately, it is thought a cow has died in the blaze. Several others have been led to safety.
Engineers from Scottish and Southern Energy are on scene due to the proximity of a main cable to the fire. Electricity has been cut to surrounding properties.
Fire crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours as they let the fire burn itself out.
Green Lane is under an emergency closure between Ashey Road and East Ashey Lane.
UPDATE TUESDAY – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now left the scene.
Green Lane is to be closed today to allow Island Roads to clear ditches following the fire.
