Lake Parish Councillors have officially opened the newly landscaped public space at New Road, along with upgraded public toilets and a refurbished information panel and notice board, as part of a £200,000 investment.
The improvements include family-friendly features, CCTV, and enhanced accessibility.
The project was supported by grant funding and is part of wider efforts to rejuvenate community spaces in Lake.
Parish Chair, Cllr Paul Brading, has said:
“Following local consultation, we’ve been able to install new facilities at New Road, Lake Cliff Gardens, and re-opened Slipway Toilets, and we would like to thank all involved in making this possible.”
The initiative involved collaboration with local business partners, the Bay Place Plan, Men in Sheds, and several other organisations.
The Parish Council has confirmed its commitment to ongoing consultation for planning and delivering the next phase of developments.
Cllr Brading concluded:
“With our monthly meetings now at the Meeting Place, next to New Road, we welcome local residents popping along to contribute their ideas to this and other initiatives being planned by the Parish Council.”
Somewhere for the drunks and the crackheads to get high….. waste of £200k
Bit like the eyesore at Yaverland.
50p to have a p*ss or sh*t
Who comes out of the sea in their speedo’s
or bikini with cash, card or phone with them
to use public conveniences!
Easier to drop your drawers and do it in the Bush.
These blocks are anti-social and anti-tourists
Are the toilets free to use?, or are they another 50p
a piss stealth tax toilet block.
People pay over £2,000.00 + a year for services
They shouldn’t be expected to pay to use toilets!
Well done to E.Cowes and other places on the island
who do not charge to use public conveniences.
Charging to use toilets is not good for tourism
or locals, especially the older generation.
20p in the village
That is much better value.
The expression “spend a penny” dates back to the 1800’s and required an old penny to be able to use the toilets. They often had an attendant who kept the place clean which deterred any vandalism. Peeing has always come at a cost and I know that there were 240 pennies in a pound back then, but allowing for inflation the addition of health and safety, the prevention of druggies breaking everything in sight because “society owes them”, I think 50p might be about right to keep the facilities.
Very true, but what is stopping a druggie paying
50p to enter and then sleep in it all night or
vandalise it.
The old 20p toilets where the Library in Shanklin
is was a better idea. It was manned.
Yep, I’ll go with 20p and being manned, oops, to be politically correct, have an attendant.
