Reports of smoke issuing from a communal bin store in East Cowes led to the turnout of 2 fire appliances last night (Monday), but it transpired to be kids smoking cannabis.
A concerned member of the public alerted Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to the smoke on Monks Walk, off Beatrice Avenue, at 21:37.
2 appliances from East Cowes and Newport were mobilised to the scene.
Upon arrival, entry was made to the bin store where 2 youths were discovered smoking drugs. They were swiftly told to be on their way.
Positive pressure ventilation was used to rid smoke from the building before crews stood down from the incident.
Parents must be so proud!!! On second thoughts, they would be angry for not sharing!!
Kids smoking cannabis. Don’t they know it kills brain cells and can have a detrimental effect on their mental health?

No small wonder business can’t get decent staff, as the young live their lives doing what they want, be it drugs, drink, or peering at, and living their pointless lives through a screen at others living a fictional life in films or silly videos.
Cut the child benefits to the bone, and ensure that those on benefit with children are never ever better off than anyone in the lowest paid work.

Blimey I am surprised someone didn’t complain about the smell. Shame the Fire Brigade cannot charge people for a call out in these circumstances, probably won’t deter them but at least some cost of 2 crew and waste of time could be recouped. Perhaps now the police are aware they would add it to their daily patrols!!

I agree. Anybody who has avoidable fires should be charged by the fire brigade. Even if deemed not suspicious, like Ventnor seafront recently. Bad site management created a bonfire waiting to happen. Rich owner gets house quicker, elderly pensioners nearly died

It’s a shame the fire brigade didn’t charge the owners of the old arcade site in Ventnor. It definitely wasn’t suspicious, just as the owners said the police would conclude, but negligent management of the property risked the lives of locals. Shame all the bats roosting there died, but the blaze saved them a costly battle with The RSPCA.
