A 43-year-old man from Shalfleet has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a woman by forcing her into a vehicle in Newport yesterday evening (Wednesday).
Police were called just before 18:45 with a report that a woman had been forced into a car before being driven from Newport to Cowes.
Officers descended on the Seaview Road area of Cowes at around 19:35, moving in on their suspect before cuffing him and taking him into custody at Newport Police Station.
A vehicle was recovered from the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that the 43-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap, common assault and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.
It’s said that the suspect is known to the victim.
He remains in custody at this time.
