The Isle of Wight is the UK’s 10th safest area to be a pedestrian, new research has claimed.
The research – carried out by Bollards Direct – revealed that the Island was ranked 10th behind places such as Swansea, Aberdeen and York.
Only places of a certain size were included in the research with other major cities and areas discounted due to insufficient data.
Around 65% of residents on the Island reported feeling safe walking alone at night, whilst just 21% of people worried about being mugged.
30.7% of people were worried about being attacked – this was the 2nd highest in the top 10.
Researchers used data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Numbeo and Gov.uk.

Would you really take anything said by a group called ‘Bollards Direct’ seriously?
They are a legitimate company. Check them out by Google (eg)
Maybe they could do a survey on the most corrupt Council in the land.
Think it’s a misspelling
If it is also safety from vehicles then perhaps it is not recent data.
It’s not, it’s about safety from violence and muggings. Not car drivers.
Have they been reading IE in the past 2 years? I dont think so…
What a load of Rubbish
Due to idiots parking on Pavements along Great Preston Road Ryde
and Regent Street Shanklin
Pedestrians at times have to walk out into the Road with oncoming traffic.
THERE IS ZERO LAW AND ORDER WHEN IT COMES TO ROAD SAFETY.
BAN PAVEMENT PARKING IS THE ANSWER
Will never happen
IW Council could not stop a Bus at a Bus Stop,
yet alone a person parking on a pavement.
Great Preston Road is an example of Road Safety gone wrong.
10th safest, unless you happen to be walking in Newport of course.
Bo@@ocks direct more like.
More delusion on the Island
Only because they don’t have potholes to dodge
Utter bull-krap 10th safest place So the Beryl scooters and bike incidents never happened, the gangs in Freshwater never happened the weekly news reports on violence in Ryde Sandown where people are scared to walk at night … never happened .. utter rubbish .. just for clicks then
Whilst your words are in truth, I would like to point out that the article is about being a pedestrian; though they might have originally wanted to see if it were safe in general to be on the island they must have anticipated comments just like these so they picked the least of them all. Perhaps bring these matters up with your best buddy Bob?
Bery scooters and bikes are an Health and Safety hazard and
should be crushed.
And cars kill the most, so should be crushed first.
10th is nothing to be proud of.
Yet in the middle of this current frenzy to keep people safe the clowns in Island Roads seem to be busy removing the walkway between the carriageways outside the bowling alley which was the only place with flat access for wheelchairs and prams for anyone coming from Dover street and the area around it.
Are you sure.
I thought all island Roads operatives sat in their trucks all day and do f*uk all
