This year’s Isle of Wight Festival has been pushed back to the later date of 16-19th September 2021, it has been announced.
Organisers have been looking at all the options for staging the festival in 2021, which has included postponing the event by 3 months.
It has now been confirmed that the Isle of Wight Festival 2021 will take place in September – a month that previously saw Bestival held on at Robin Hill on the Island.
It was originally hoped that the Isle of Wight Festival would take place between 17th-20th June as normal, but the coronavirus laws won’t be changed until at least 21st June.
Taking to social media, organisers have said:
“We’re so excited to announce that we’re moving the festival to 16th – 19th September 2021. We’re aiming to bring back as many of the artists as we can but rest assured, you’ll enjoy a stellar line-up over the festival weekend”.
By mid-September, it is hoped that all adults across the country will have been vaccinated and life will have returned to near normality. Social contact restrictions are due to be abolished by the end of June.
Although the line-up has not yet been confirmed, tickets for the Isle of Wight Festival are on sale now at www.isleofwightfestival.com/tickets and https://www.thepriceiswight.co.uk/product/iow-festival-full-payment-21/. All existing tickets will remain valid for September, so keep hold of them. If you cannot make the new dates then you should contact your ticket provider to get a refund.
The annual 4-day event has survived all sorts of conditions over the years from a total quagmire to scorching heat, however, it was COVID-19 that led to the major festival being completely cancelled in 2020.
Earlier this afternoon official ticket provider The Price is Wight revealed the potential new date of 16th-19th September.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – Isle of Wight Council Leader Councillor Dave Stewart has said the event should only go ahead in September should it be safe to do so – both for those attending the festival and the wider Island community.
Cllr Stewart has said:
“It is clearly good news that the festival is not happening in June as it attracts so many visitors and it would not be safe at that time – indeed, it would not comply with the government roadmap. However, I now understand there are proposals for the event to move to September instead,” said Councillor Stewart.
“Although it is likely we will be out of lockdown and ‘open for business’ as an Island in September, this is not definite and any plans must be predicated on it being safe for the festival to proceed, which will ultimately be a decision based on public health grounds. We have come too far to throw away all our hard earned efforts over the past 12 months to keep the Island safe during the COVID pandemic.
“I appreciate the desire to recharge our economic recovery and there will be a number of events that, if they do take place, will help us on that journey. However, all must be safe to do so and I expect the Island’s Safety Advisory Group (SAG) will be paying careful attention to this announcement as will Island residents.”

as much as I love the festival I’ll be staying away for a couple of years. 🙁 This year will be covid central next year full of all the people who missed out last two years.
So just as the schools are starting the new academic year.
Was it not possible to hold the festival mid – late August so not affecting schools and businesses.
Best if cancelled all together this year… Greed… thats all it is… what Insurance company will pay if Covid strikes ???
Rest assured it won’t be the bank of “greedy Giddings”….
Although social contact restrictions may be lifted social distancing and face masks might not be….
love the headline. But read on “Potential Date” This is Giddings testing the water
This is all about greed NOT need.
I love the festival, but it is crazy to hold it this year.
Only those who are too drunk, drugged or thick will ‘see’ no problems, and of course those ‘making’ from it.
Personally I think the dates are a poor choice, we all know about the terrible traffic delays the festival creates and it will disrupt school traffic just as children get back into a new routine. They really should move it to fit within summer holidays. ( In my opinion ). I know people won’t agree but festivals are less important than education right now. Come on Mr Giddings. Don’t put another hurdle in front of children’s education there’s been enough of that already
No thought about any people children or adults, just wants the money ! Certainly does not care about the traffic problems…
This Pandemic is the end of The Festival
Nice to have something to look forward to so let’s hope this Brazilian variant doesn’t get a hold, that could mess up alot of plans.
I don’t think this will happen but it will mean claiming Furlough payments for the staff as its not on in June…. Nice one for all involved
Correct me if I’m wrong but the usual dates for the festival is during school term time so please explain the difference
Stop press! Councillor Stewart changes tune in a heartbeat. ‘Good to go! Ooh, is it safe? No, don’t go out….’ Hanging about with ‘well connected Conservative MP’ Bob has clearly rubbed off. Most probably paid off as well.
Complete madness……
People furlough till September now! Bye bye summer! Told you 🙂
Just damn well cancel it this year. Stupid idea….
Who is going to insure it ? Cannot be held without Insurance… I certainly will not be going, too small a space for so many people… especially so close to Covid… Could cause it to mutate worse… but what do I know.., I prefer to be safe than sorry.
So I guess the fake festival tickets will now be supplied with fake covid passports?
How bloody stupid…. who is doing the Insurance ? Are they daft too ?? Will everyone be tested as they queue up at the gates… What about the musicians…they being tested before and after…? Wonder how much one could claim if they catch Covid there ?? But even if people do catch Covid, the Council will say otherwise..
I hope it blows up tn their faces.. Greed before health
