Islander Thomas Yaxley is making fellow residents aware about discarded needles after nearly standing on a used hypodermic needle on Ryde Beach this morning (Wednesday).
Thomas was walking along Appley Beach with his toddler when he spotted this used hypodermic needle just moments before stepping on it. Unwilling to just leave it on the sand, Thomas tried to locate a bin to place it in but was unable to find one.
It was soon made apparent to Thomas that other needles had been found on the beach after speaking to a dog walker, who had also struggled to locate a bin after finding a used needle on the sands.
The Isle of Wight Council have been made aware of the incident, who in turn will be notifying the relevant teams.
Thomas is urging anyone planning on walking on the beach to be extra cautious, especially between Appley Tower and the Dell Cafe.
