Island Line is running to an hourly timetable once again today (Wednesday) due to a fault with 1 of just 2 trains operating on the network.
Over the past few months, the 82-year-old former London Underground trains have become increasingly unreliable. South Western Railway is having to reduce the service offered to passengers on a weekly basis with fears growing that Island Line will ground to a halt if the second train goes out of service.
Whilst the faulty train is repaired, the service is running at XX:49 from Ryde Pier Head and XX:18 from Shanklin.
Disruption is expected until the end of the day today but is likely to return in the coming days or weeks.
New trains are not expected to be running between Ryde and Shanklin until at least May 2021.
Island Line say they are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.

Tar Mac is the answer, private road, electric shuttle buses.
Trains are more efficient because of the extremely low rolling resistance. Use the money for your plan for new rolling stock and a way to buy a train ticket other than the guard.
Salisbury reds have just purchased 3 electric buses at £400,000 each, and they need charging after 160 miles, so to maintain the service, I would reckon you need 8 buses at least, plus they still won’t get up the pier
Obviously said by a councillor with his hand in the southern vectis till!
So very soon we could be left with no trains at all then it could be bye bye to the island line
You could be right,a new broom sweeps clean terry.
Bring 007 back into service. That has recently been serviced. That would then give them three trains till the work is done. Go SWT spend a bit of cash on the line and also fix the toilets at Shanklin while your at it. The Staff on the island do a splindid job with what thay have got. Don’t let them down.
If 007 was fit for service it would be running.
What reason could there be to hold back a usable unit at the cost of the service, and the public trust?
Maybe a ticket machine at Ryde st johns so I can pay for the service I use. Guard does not always have time to get to sell me a ticket. They must loose so much money.
That’s on the cards Richard along with the other upgrades.
Is this service even needed, its not that difficult to get from Shanklin to Ryde
As Ryde gets built beyond recognition then the road from Ryde to Sandown restricted at Brading will become hell in the Summer.
To tar mac the track and use it as a private road for several shuttle battery buses would be more cost effective, easy for anyone to drive, could LEAVE the private road and go into towns, picking up customers and speed on the private road to get people fast to destinations.
Tar mac is the answer
Rather it was steam trains but Greta has ruined life for normal people, forever
And your real name is?
You obviously don’t ever use it! Lots do
£26 million railway investment which includes 5 new specially developed trains for the line suggests someone somewhere disagrees with you Bob!
When the road was flooded between Brading and Sandown it was the only reasonable way between Ryde and Shanklin
Monday I was crossing the train crossing from rosemary lane and I saw a group of kids putting big logs/branchs on the train line. I removed them and chased after the kids as thats attempted murder in my eyes. Police dident care. What I mean is maybe this has happened before and damaged the underneath of the train.
Mono rail is the answer, no flooding to worry about,….
About time these trains went for good, they never keep to the service now a days, staff all ways sick, yet loads at Ryde, but none at Shanklin, Free parking mainly for years at Shanklin, right old staff shambles.
