due to the unavailability of crew,
..
I think it is time that transport providers should be legally required to publish the specific reason why the crew are unavailable, what actions they took to rectify it before cutting services and what preventative measures they have in place to ensure that alternative options can be explored in the event of crew not turning up for work.
are the crew sick, have they quit, are they off for another reason, did other staff refuse overtime, do they not have other staff on the network, that also have a crew qualification.
what is island line doing about it and this also needs to be communicated
How much detail do you need? Will “off sick” do you, or would you prefer “off sick with flu”? Do you need a medical certificate? Would you like South Western Railways for provide you with daily staffing reports?
Bottom line is that South Western Railway, who operate Island Line are a private company (as are the ferry companies) and have no obligation to inform you of anything. If you don’t like it, embrace the free market and use another method of transport.
These authoritarian tendencies of yours suggest that the UK may not be the best place for you to live. Maybe China, Russia, North Korea or Saudi Arabia may suit you better.
Bon Voyage.
zog – do you even think before posting messages.
rolling out the “unavailability of crew” line can easily cover a multitude of sins – we hear this excuse time and time again – so what are they doing to rectify the issue
funny how these services used to operate just fine, virtually flawlessly and the “no staff” excuse never saw the light of day – why – because they were adequately staffed, with back up plans in place.
if the transport providers cannot get their acts together and ensure a reliable service, then they need to be regulated further to ensure that they do.
it isn’t hard is it – I guess you are happy with expensive, unreliable services and lame excuses.
Well, I don’t use the trains so it doesn’t bother me at all, but aside from that….
Whooooosh
That was the sound of the point I was making going right over your little head.
Again in bold so you might be able to understand:
South Western Railways are a private company who can run their business any way they want and don’t have to explain their actions to you or anyone else.
If it were the nationalised British Rail, you may have had a point, but they aren’t and you don’t. You lost that right way back in 1993 when John Major privatised them.
jeez – you aren’t the brightest – no point carrying on the conversation, it is beyond your level of understanding
I’m no more having a conversation with you than I would with a 5 year old who didn’t understand a basic concept. More a teacher and student relationship.
With you being a very dense student who probably shouldn’t be in mainstream schooling.
Again, this time in BOLD CAPITALS in the vain hope that you may understand basic English.
PRIVATE COMPANIES LIKE SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAYS DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN THEIR OPERATING PRACTICES TO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE. THAT IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE NO MATTER HOW MANY TIME YOU STAMP YOUR LITTLE FEET AND WHINE ABOUT IT. IT AIN’T GOING TO HAPPEN.
Festival weekend
What more could you expect
Tar Mac and run an electric battery shuttle bus
Advantages being any bus driver could drive it, no huge maintenance costs, no dangerous high voltage lines to have to ensure fencing is perfect, and still as green.
There was a good reason train lines were removed and this new reason of inadequate staffing only adds to that criteria
What is the point of the Island railway. Either close it or get staff who want to work on a sunny day.
Buses are cancelled daily, but island echo for some strange reason fail to make a song and dance of southern vectis?
couldent agree more i regularly am left standing waiting for a bus that doesnt turn up.
Well these cancellations have been going on a few months now surely, sickness, covid,,ectshoul be getting sorted by now, festival weekend most places have sickies, ect and nice weather adds to it.
Simple get more staff !!!!
All that money spent and now constant cancellations….
Red jet Red funnel train …..omg is there an end to it,,,,,,,,?????‽

Welcome to the Isle of Wight……
Ooh festival closures and diversions (nearly forgot that ! )
The staff have probably realised theres more money on the London underground so have jacked the IOW train wrecks for better lolly!
I expect they’re short staffed because everyone is training up to be doctors and nurses to fill all the new surgeries being built!
