Island guitarist Matt Kellett is set to release the first single from his forthcoming solo album this Friday (9th January), with a high-energy track featuring several well-known names from the rock world.
‘Wild Road’, released via Mayfield Records, is the lead single from Matt’s upcoming album The Stars Like Dust, which is due to follow in April. The new track is described as a hard-driving blues rocker, complete with slide guitar and wailing harmonica – an ode to life on the road.
Matt, who has toured extensively with bands across the UK and beyond, previously played alongside legendary New York rocker Johnny Thunders in a line-up that included Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and New York Dolls drummer Jerry Nolan. He also recorded several albums with London indie band the Fallen Angels.
Joining Matt on the new single is bassist Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, Joan Jett), with Isle of Wight drummer Guy Page (Coach Party) also featuring.
Matt, speaking ahead of an interview on Express FM with Paul Marsh on Thursday, has said:
“I’ve been in the studio on and off for a while now putting songs together and I thought it was about time to put them out there…”
The single release follows Matt’s recent involvement in the installation of a memorial bench at Binstead Church in honour of his late friend Razzle, former drummer of Hanoi Rocks.
Looking ahead to February, Matt is set to reunite with Sami Yaffa when he performs at The 1865 in Southampton. Yaffa, currently touring with Michael Monroe, recently played the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles with Slash of Guns N’ Roses joining on guitar.
Matt has said:
“It’s just good timing; I was about to mix some of the songs and Sami happened to be playing the 1865 in Southampton. He really liked the songs and laid down the bass tracks, and here we are…
“I jammed with Hanoi a few times back in the day and I’ve always liked Sami’s playing so it’s a real bonus to have him onboard.”
‘Wild Road’ will be available on all major streaming platforms from Friday (9th January).
