Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat has successfully assisted in recovering an 18ft angling boat that ran aground on Bembridge Ledge yesterday (Sunday).
‘Norman Harvey’ launched at 17:07 this afternoon on a pre-arranged tasking to recover the 18ft Warrior angling boat in the vicinity of Black Rock.
The boat had only recently been purchased and had left Langstone Harbour on Sunday morning.
Having failed to get off on this morning’s high water, the owner, his 8-year-old son and their dog were encouraged to return home to the mainland earlier today and to leave the boat’s recovery to the lifeboat crew.
After waiting about half an hour for the tide to make sufficiently, the Norman Harvey was able to successfully recover the boat, tow her into Bembridge Harbour and put her alongside the visitors pontoon.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team was mobilised to provide safety cover during the recovery operation.
inexperienced, and a chancer comes to mind…
If going by sight it can be a very deceptive area as you are going around the ledges. Having correct maps and equipment makes all the difference.
Learn about tides and weather, a short start sailing RYS course will be invaluable if your going out on the water.
Lets hope they drive there car’s better than they sail there boat’s.
Let’s hope you drive your car better than you spell: check your homophones, numpty.
You must have got out the wrong side of the bed today, are you having a bad day?…
Sorry i didn’t do well at school, still i would rather be unintelligent than a coward.
Can happen to anyone. All the wannabee sailors thinking that because they live on the island they know how to sail. It’s easy to pass judgement after the fact.
