As previously reported by Island Echo, a body was recovered from the foot of Culver Cliff last Friday following a search involving Police and Coastguard teams. Later in the evening, Sandown Independent Lifeboat and Bembridge RNLI assisted in recovering the male body to dry land.
The multi-agency operation was sparked following the discovery of a vehicle in the car park at Culver Down.
Over the weekend the identity of the deceased male was revealed as Piyachai Chainiyom (also known as ‘PC’), the proprietor of Ryde Thai in Union Street, Ryde. The announcement was made by the family via Facebook.
Island food reviewers Matt & Cat have led tributes to the popular 36-year-old chef and said via their Facebook page:
“We, and so many people we introduced to Pc, loved the food he produced but more than that, loved the gentle charm and character of this remarkable and dedicated businessman who found success whilst making so many people his friends”.
The inquest has been adjourned to a date yet to be fixed.
