INJURED MAN AIRLIFTED FROM CLIFF PATH NEAR CULVER

An elderly man is receiving treatment in hospital after falling and sustaining an injury on a cliff path between Culver Down and Whitecliff Bay during the early hours of this morning (Sunday). 

At around 03:15, both Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to reports that a man had fallen in the vicinity of Culver Down.

A short search was carried out which resulted in the casualty being swiftly located on the path running from Culver to Whitecliff Bay.

Coastguard Rescue 175 Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was soon called in to evacuate the patient directly to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

The man was stretchered to the awaiting red and white helicopter, which landed at Sandhills Holiday Park shortly after 04:00. As the sun began to rise at the start of a new day the helicopter lifted off en-route to the hospital helipad in Newport.

Why the heck would someone be walking up there at that ridiculous hour?
It gets ridiculously dark up there on cloudy days god knows what it’s like in the middle of the night..

We walked past the gentleman at 1am this morning coming back from fishing. We crossed near the start of the track. He had no torch my friend nearly poked him with his rods… made us all jump… said hello any fish and off we went.. did say it’s not right did not expect to see this post how bizarre
