Residents at Orchard House Care Home in Newport were treated to a surprise visit from a local ice cream van last week, with the summer outing bringing smiles, laughter and fond memories of years gone by.
With temperatures soaring, residents gathered outside to enjoy the sunshine while choosing their favourite ice creams, spending time with friends, staff and visiting relatives.
For many, the simple treat prompted memories of family holidays, childhood summers and days spent at the seaside.
Head of Lifestyle Katie Schlepp has said:
“It was wonderful to see so many smiles. Something as simple as an ice cream can bring back precious memories and create new ones at the same time.
“Our residents loved choosing their favourite flavours, spending time outdoors and simply enjoying the sunshine together. These are often the moments that mean the most.”

The visit formed part of Orchard House’s ongoing Life Enrichment programme, which is designed to create meaningful experiences that promote wellbeing, encourage social interaction and help residents continue enjoying the activities they love.
As the sunshine continued throughout the afternoon, residents relaxed in the garden, shared stories and made the most of a classic British summer tradition.
