Adverse weather conditions have forced cross-Solent travel operator Hovertravel to temporarily suspend service.
With gusty winds being experienced across the Island, the craft cannot currently complete the trip between Ryde and Southsea.
Purchased tickets are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fast Cat service.
An update as to whether services can resume or not is due at around 12:00.
Hovertravel has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
UPDATE @ 13:15 – Red Jet has announced that the 15:35, 16:45 and 17:55 from Southampton and the 16:10, 17:20 and 18:30 from East Cowes have been cancelled due to adverse weather and operating limits on board Red Jet 6.
Hovertravel service remains suspended at this current time also.
UPDATE @ 15:40 – Red Jet service has been suspended until at least 19:00 when a further assessment will be made.
What spoilsports. The hover is far more fun in bumpy conditions. Better than those kid’s rides at Blackgang.
Maybe take a moment to think about what happened in 1972 when 5 lives were lost when a hovercraft overturned off Southsea in similar windy conditions.
Well we won’t have that problem once we dig a tunnel and get rid of all those dirty smelly ships etc
