Hovertravel has suspended its cross-Solent service this evening (Saturday) due to adverse weather conditions.
An increasingly strong wind has led to the decision to stop all hover crossings between Ryde and Southsea.
An update is expected at 20:30, but it is possible that services won’t resume until Sunday morning.
Tickets are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fastcat service.
It comes as local forecasters IW Met Service warn of a spell of strong and gusty northerly winds this evening and overnight.
Wind gusts are expected widely to be around 40-45mph, but perhaps gusting as high as 50-55mph around any showers that move through.
UPDATE – Services have now resume

Not a guaranteed service hardly sustainable good job it’s not Monday as there would be a lot of disgruntled festival people .
very much a fine weather service if you can call wightlink a service
Those winds come up the Solent very quickly and thanks to all at Hovercraft the right decision was made to cancel, what’s more important being late for work or not getting home at all. Being of a certain age, I can remember the disaster of the hovercraft turning over just before it got to Southsea in the winds you mention, people died in that tragedy.
Safety always has to come first you thick idiot Hovertravel done a fantastic job on Friday operating extra craft. Not much they can do out the weather
The hover travel, has made the right choice. The staff there are so amazing.
