Strong winds are starting to affect cross-Solent travel as an amber weather warning for the Isle of Wight comes into force this evening (Bank Holiday Monday).
Hovertravel has confirmed that their service between Ryde and Southsea has been suspended due to the adverse conditions.
An update is expected at 18:15 but it seems unlikely that the service will run again today as the conditions are set to worsen as the evening progresses.
Wightlink say that all 3 of their routes – Ryde Pier Head, Fishbourne and Yarmouth – are currently running on time.
Red Funnel’s services are also running to time, but the operator says it is highly likely that the Red Jet service will encounter disruption.
UPDATE @ 18:17 – Red Funnel’s hi-speed Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton has been suspended for the remainder of the day.
As previously reported by Island Echo, an amber weather warning has been issued by local forecasters IW Met Service.
Gusts of 50-60mph will be possible anywhere across the Isle of Wight with gusts of 70-75mph possible on exposed coasts and hills, especially in more southern and western parts of the island.
The warning is active from now until 06:00 tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

Perhaps hovercraft should take over from that idiotic floating bridge….
