A large scale search for a missing holidaymaker was launched at the most southerly point of the Isle of Wight last night (Tuesday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 20:21 to reports of a missing woman in the area of St Catherine’s Lighthouse.
A full search commenced in the dark in a bid to locate the casualty – visiting the Isle of Wight on holiday – as quickly as possible.
Whilst Coastguard Rescue Officers (CROs) progressed with their search, a member of the public in the local area heard cries for help near Rocken End. With no mobile signal to summon help, the local fisherman located the woman and was able to assist her to safety. She had become lost and stuck in undergrowth off Old Blackgang Road.
The search was called off when the missing woman was discovered safe and well having been driven back to St Catherine’s.
A spokesperson for Ventnor Coastguard says:
“This area of coastline is beautiful but please stick to paths and ensure you have a mobile phone with you. If you become in difficulty dial 999 or 112 and ask for COASTGUARD”.
Ventnor CRT were in action again this morning (Wednesday) following reports of suspicious vessels off of St Lawrence and Castlehaven. Enquiries were carried out with nothing untoward discovered.
With the council ‘cutting back’ on cutting back footpaths on the Island, it would make little difference IF she had stayed, or strayed from the footpath.
Great she was found alive and well.
Yet the fiscal cost of holiday makers who come to walk our brilliant network of footpaths, get stung, prickled, spiked or just get fed up with battling and watching where they walk instead of enjoying the freedom and views, and who, like most of the ‘silent’ majority, just decided ‘not to go there again’ will never be known.

As the idiot woman in question, I am certainly not deterred from visiting the island again!
There is no money for such things, it all goes on excessive wages, pensions, payout so bmw Audi Range Rover and big houses you know the false economy can roll on
