Walking the Wight led to an unexpected bit of good news for Freshwater student, Emily Scadgell.
Emily was entered into a prize draw and hers was the name picked out from hundreds of entries to win a holiday, courtesy Island-based HF Holidays.
Emily took part in Walk the Wight in memory of her mum, Jean, who died at the Hospice in April this year. She was one of a team of ten walkers, who between them have raised more than £3,600 for the Hospice.
Generous Emily won’t be booking the holiday for herself, though, as she has handed the prize over to her brother Sam, who she says deserves a rest.
“Sam runs the The Piano Café in Freshwater – a venture he worked on very closely with our mum. It has been a difficult time for us all, but Sam works really hard to make the café a success and he deserves a break, so I have given him the holiday.”
Tony Wootton, Freshwater Bay House Manager at HF Holidays, said:
“HF Holidays were delighted to once again support Walk the Wight, which passes the grounds of their Freshwater Bay House before heading up to the Needles and its finish at Alum Bay.
“This is the 25th year we have helped with Walk the Wight. It is an absolute pleasure to meet and offer refreshments to the thousands of walkers in the last stages of the walk. We can see the walkers approaching Freshwater Bay, many in their costumes and brightly coloured attire, and we try and give them the encouragement and boost to get on with the last couple of miles ahead of them.
“We are proud to support Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Walk the Wight year on year.”
