Bomb Disposal experts were called to a residential property in Shanklin yesterday (Monday) following the discovery of a piece of historic ordnance.
Police were alerted to the find in the garden of a family home on Clarence Gardens at 12:15.
The Royal Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, based in Portsmouth, were sent details and photos of the object. The decision was then taken to deploy to the Island.
By 18:45 the EOD team were on scene just off Arthur’s Hill and carried out an assessment of the situation.
They swiftly and safely removed the object from the scene and returned to the mainland.
