Police officers clad in riot gear worked alongside mental health professionals to detain a male in Freshwater yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
At around 13:15, Police rendezvoused at Moa Place in Freshwater and began donning protective equipment and formulating a plan of action.
A short time later, a convoy of vehicles moved in on a property at nearby Sunset Close.
The situation was swiftly and safely handled, with officers working alongside the health services to detain a male under the Mental Health Act.
It’s the second such incident in the past week, with Police also assisting in the detainment of a male at Alverstone Road, Winford last Friday evening.
Appears a little OTT, unless he had been brandishing a machete, or similar.
It’s quite possible, even probable, that drug misuse is involved here; though awaiting updates. In which case a normally placid individual can become highly dangerous, as the state of his mind is disturbed.
I expect the number of officers was due to their previous experience of such situations.
Freshwater has fallen foul of ‘County Lines’ drug supply. Youths running round on motorbikes have been supplying the area for some time now. Never challenged, never stopped, they go round with impunity, laughing at any objectors, like me.
It’s not that simple, alas with mental health issues people can become very agitated and aggressive….
That is why the police have to cover all eventualities, for their safety and those involved.
With the way things are nowadays, it”s not surprising that some people lose the plot. It’s enough to drive anyone mad. The world is crazy now, can’t say this, can’t say that, can’t do a lot anymore that we used to take for granted, our freedom is all but gone.
Why are we using police to deal with people with mental health problems?
It’s hardly surprising that people can get agitated and aggressive, especially when they have experienced a police force in riot gear breaking down their front door and then deciding the best place for the person is 24hrs in a police cell. That doesn’t tend to make things any better.
The use of restraint for dealing with mental health is known to bring on Acute Behavioural Disorder (ABD), leading to sudden death from cardiac arrest or asphyxia.
