A head-on collision involving 2 cars has blocked Playstreet Lane in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency services including police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance near to the Ryde Academy sixth form site following the incident – which is understood to have taken place at just after 12:50.
2 vehicles including a Peugeot and a Ford have collided head-on resulting in significant damage to both cars.
1 driver has escaped seemingly unharmed whilst another is being attended to by paramedics – although it’s not thought that their condition is serious.
The road remains blocked from the sixth form entrance and vehicles are unable to pass at this time.
UPDATE @ 14:16 – It’s understood that one person has been taken to hospital by ambulance to be further treated for their injuries, although they are not thought to be serious or life threatening.
Recovery of both vehicles involved is expected to take place shortly.
Two crashes so far today, the other opposite Aldi in Lake, involving two more cars.
The day is young, another one will be along soon…
Oh please get some perspective! All we see on this site is police call outs, ambulance call outs and coastguard. Reminds me of covid – tell enough people it’s a deadly disease and flood the news channels with it and you believe it, while a simple FOI request to the council will tell you there were less deaths than 2017!!
Why would anyone want perspective when it requires some personal effort and use of a brain cell or two?!
It’s far simpler to sit and blindly absorb up the fear-mongering & propaganda through their tv’s/media channels
Used to feel safe walking along this lovely tree lined road years ago, not any more, cars everywhere. Either people drive more or they are using the road more. Hard to see how something like this can happen in such a small area where presumably people should be driving with extra care, but hope people involved will be okay anyway.
or more people, and a lot more to come
Too many poor people on the roads I’m afraid to say. Too many people can afford to drive around without a care in the world with no responsibility for anyone except themselves. If it was more expensive to own a car families might stick to one vehicle per driveway, making parking easier and easing congesstion at the same time. I know this is not a popular solution – but at least it is a solution.
Good points. Far too many cars. People convince themselves they “need” one and “can’t” do without one, but if they had to, most would manage. If someone lives miles from anywhere and don’t want to have to rely on deliveries of groceries etc, then yes of course they need their own transport if there are no buses, but so many people just drive a car to the corner shop or because kids don’t want to walk a short journey home. I used to walk home on my own from that school when it was the infants school, now even teenagers get lifts home from parents. Not all I know but too many do when it isn’t really necessary. People confuse “need” with merely “want”, but of course no one wants to hear that and don’t like it when they do.
why are island drivers so bad at driving
Too many idiots think they are experts that don’t understand speed limits, and they have no understanding of dangerous situations..
Most of them have mind’s like teenagers that think they are invisible, and we do have a massive drugs problem on our roads…
If you think we have a massive drugs problem on our roads you should try looking at the gov statistics and compare to other areas.
seems one car on wrong side of the road…
It’s really a single track road, there is just about room for two to start with they could not possibly have not seen each other, I can only imagine that someones foot slipped from brake to accelerator or something equally unfortunate.
Someone clearly wasn’t paying attention, as it is almost impossible to have a head on collision on that road, by that school, if both drivers are paying attention to the road ahead.
A fine dry sunny day and yet another crash!. It’s breathtaking that people still manage to crash into each other.
The reason you are all so shocked at the number of accidents is because the only news we get now is via emergency service call outs! You’d have more perspective if there was other news lol!
We publish between 500-550 articles a month. The majority of these news articles are not about the emergency services.
Well good for you for allowing my post and replying. I agree but breaking news is always emergency contacts 😉
Haha must say I totally agree with this!
How can this happen you cannot go more than 20 along there and did they not see eachother terrible near a school
Obviously elderly drivers, can’t think of anyone else using that road.
Of course – who else could possibly need to use a road near the 6th form ???
