Haven Falconry is launching an urgent appeal to help with a large-scale rejuvenation project at their bird of prey centre in Havenstreet. The dedicated team are facing a busy winter period rebuilding many of the aviaries. The project will see a major expansion to many of the current enclosures, offering the birds of prey additional space. The new structures will need to be robust enough to withstand all extremes of weather and temperature – a matter that is of high importance considering the weather extremes experienced recently. The new larger aviaries will help to create new enrichment spaces for the birds, which is important for both physical and mental stimulation to encourage movement and activity whilst the birds are not being flown outside or during extended periods of inactivity, such as moulting. Work has already begun with the rejuvenation of 1 large aviary, but additional help to accomplish such a large-scale task across the site is urgently needed. Due to the scale of the project, the team at Haven Falconry are appealing to Island businesses for their kind help and assistance in supporting such a large-scale task. The centre is appealing for help with the supply of building materials, gravel, feather edge wood in 2×4 and 4×6 lengths and astro turf. Charlotte Bell and Sam White from Haven Falconry say:
“The welfare and care of our birds of prey at the centre is paramount at all times. “The planned work to extend many of our aviaries during the winter months will certainly be a major challenge, but a vital one to ensure our birds are cared for to the highest standards. “Help and support from the Island’s business community will certainly be a key factor in achieving our goal at the centre. “We would like to express our gratitude in advance for any kind help or support that the Islands community may kindly be able offer with our rejuvenation project”.
The local attraction Haven Falconry is a private business but seems to want to be treated as a charity. Why would local businesses want to give their help and support?

All birds should be free, not caged up and forced to travel around the island in vans and sit in the baking sunshine to be gawped at by the public for the benefit of the business.

It’s called community spirit. If the government and the council can give millions of pounds of our money to your beloved PRIVATE bus company, why shouldn’t businesses inclined to do so donate a few bits of wood? It’s their choice at the end of the day.

Lost count now of the number of times these two have held their hands out for money. They are not business people, never had a business plan and don’t even understand the basics.
