A Shanklin man who fell off his motorcycle after he clipped a curb was found to be under the influence of drink at the time of the crash.
Timothy Butchers, 45 of Green Lane in Shanklin pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (25th August).
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 15th April at around 23:15, Butchers was seen driving along Witbank Gardens where he clipped a curb whilst travelling on his motorbike and crashed.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the scene alongside paramedics from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Having been taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport a blood test was conducted which returned a blood alcohol reading of 158 in 100 millilitres of blood – the legal limit is 80.
Butchers suffered 5 broken ribs and a concussion in the smash.
Defending, Amy Hosell, said that Butchers accepts the fact he was over the limit and that he has held a clean driving licence since he passed his bike test back in 2011.
Magistrates handed the handy-man a 19-month driving ban. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £300, costs of £85 and a £120 surcharge fee.

“A Shanklin man who fell off his bike”
You mean a motorbike, motorcycle, moped or something else similar.
You do NOT mean a “bike”, AKA a “bicycle”.
Perhaps you can remember that in future, and get it rigjht.
And perhaps you could spell “right” correctly.
Also you don’t drive a motorbike, you ride it!
Lol, I thought they meant bike/bicycle for a moment, too!!
So many selfish D’Heads on our Island Roads.
Unless it was an electric bike which has a motor ?? Laws change every 5 mins i cannot keep up .
