The Mark Drama is set to return to the Isle of Wight for the first time since 2022, offering an immersive retelling of the life of Jesus based entirely on Mark’s Gospel – with no props, no costumes and no professional actors.
Presented by Grace Church Isle of Wight, the production features members of the church who have committed to memorising the entire sequence of events in Mark’s Gospel before performing it live as part of a 90-minute, theatre-in-the-round experience.
Audiences will witness Jesus preach, respond to criticism, perform miracles, face arrest and crucifixion – all unfolding around them in an intimate, fast-paced setting designed to bring the story to life in a direct and powerful way.
Local Ryde maths tutor Rob Silk takes on the role of Jesus, joined by a cast of 14 church members – 7 men and 7 women. The production is led by Associate Pastor Oliver Tucker, with direction by Will Demou from Southampton.
2 performances will be held:
- Saturday 28th February at Lift Ryde Academy, 20:00 (doors open 19:30)
- Sunday 1st March at St Catherine’s Church, Ventnor, 16:30 (doors open 16:00)
Entry is free but booking is recommended via: www.gracechurch-iow.co.uk/markdrama
Oliver Tucker, Producer and Associate Pastor, has said:
“We are delighted to be performing the Mark Drama in 2026. It’s a great experience for the cast and a great evening for the guests – you won’t have seen anything like it.
“Good art and theatre is fewer than it should be on the Isle of Wight. We welcome all to come and see the Mark Drama, those of all faiths or none. Please book in and come along.”
