2 cross-Solent ferry operators have been forced to cancel sailings to and from the Isle of Wight today (Friday).
Mechanical issues with one of Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington ferries means the 17:00 sailing from Lymington and the 18:05 return from Yarmouth have both been cancelled. All booked customers will travel on the next available sailing.
Red Funnel have also cancelled 2 sailings today. The 22:00 vehicle ferry sailing from Southampton and the 23:30 from East Cowes have been pulled due to operational reasons.
It is unknown if there will be any further cancellations today.
Both Wightlink and Red Funnel apologise for any inconvenience to your journey.

They had also cancelled earlier ferries as we turned up for the 3pm and was told the lymington to Yarmouth boat only had 3 working engines and that if it was 25 knots or more it wouldn’t sail, and it didn’t. You should have seen the chaos at lymington cars queuing right down the road, we were booked on the 5pm I got a text message at 4pm to say our 5pm had been cancelled due to mechanical issues and that we would have to wait for the 7.15pm. We had flown into Bournemouth from Corfu been up since 3am absolutely shattered and needed to get home to the iow. So luckily we managed to get red funnel from Southampton at a cost of £72 one way and finally got home at 7.30pm. It took less time getting from Corfu to Bournemouth airport than getting from lymington to the Isle of Wight absolutely disgusted. The previous week my mother in law was left stranded as toilets had flooded and they cancelled her ferry over to us as she came over to look after our cat whilst we were away. It’s a joke trying to get on and off the island these days these ferries are not fit for purpose. Glad we are up for sale and going to move back to the mainland sick of the stress it causes.

Good – move off the island – that will be one less whinger – there are people on this island who cannot afford a day out shopping in portsmouth, let alone a holiday in corfu (name droppers that you are – we do not need to know where you have been – stop gloating). You wouldn’t have been shattered if you hadn’t been jetting off to other locations, contributing to climate change, by creating the demand for air travel.
Whilst the ferries do have mechanical issues, the overall reliability for the entire year is in the,95% plus, range – frustrating as it may be, they do run more often than not, overall.
