A single-decker bus that used to serve Islanders has been transformed into a field hospital that is to be sent to Ukraine.
The former Southern Vectis bus was handed over to Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine Ambassador to the UK in London on Monday.
The Dennis Dart started life as a WightBus before serving customers on the Island on numerous routes including 5, 38, 22, 6, 9, and 33. It was also used in Dorset and Wales before being decommissioned in 2017.
What was once used to transport passengers across the Island has now been turned into a field hospital and will be making its way to Ukraine soon.
Andrew Wickham, Managing Director of Go South Coast, has said:
“Honoured to take part in the handover of our Dennis Dart bus to His Excellency Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine Ambassador to the UK.
“Looking forward to giving more buses to this most worthwhile of projects.”
It would have been kinder, far cheaper and made the WHOLE Western world a safer place to have JUST sent thousands of white flags, as they can and won’t ever ‘win’ this war and the suffering of people and animals will go on now for years.
In all wars someone has to lose and it will be them, so why risk dragging in other countries to risk their children ending up maimed for their one and only lives or killed to not ‘help’ but to prolong this vile war.

I wonder if the Ukrainian army really want this bus, or is it something we see so much of these days, gesture politics?
I’m fairly sure that Ukraine has thousands of buses of its own that it could take some of the seats out, put in a couple of trollies and first aid kits (I’m obviously just going by the photo published here) and call it a field hospital.
I think the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK is probably too diplomatic to say no thanks, we don’t need this, we’ve got thousands of buses.
Me, being cynical, thinks this is perhaps more of a way for the company to remove old assets from its books whilst gaining brownie points. Weren’t they sending old buses all the way to Africa previously as ‘training vehicles’, or something?
