The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in Godshill this afternoon (Tuesday).
Specialist doctors and paramedics have touched down at Central Mead recreation field to provide assistance to paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Emergency crews, including 2 ambulances, are in attendance at The Griffin public house.
The flying doctors were alerted to the emergency in the village shortly before 14:00, responding directly from Southampton General Hospital’s helipad.
The helicopter remains on the ground at Central Mead.
UPDATE @ 15:39 – Specialist flying doctors have been treating a male in the rear garden of The Griffin.
The casualty, who is in a serious condition, has been moved a short distance by land ambulance through the Old Smithy car park to the awaiting helicopter, with the 2 local ambulance crews assisting the aircrew with moving the stretcher across the field.
The air ambulance has now departed from Central Mead and is flying the casualty directly to Southampton General Hospital for advanced emergency treatment.
The pub has closed in response to the incident for the well-being of staff. It should re-open as normal tomorrow.
