Isle of Wight residents who have been hit by recent flooding will be eligible for vital Government money, it has been confirmed. Earlier this week there was frustration around a lack of clarity relating to the eligibility criteria of the Storm Babet Flood Recovery Framework, prompting the Isle of Wight Council and local MP Bob Seely to chase Whitehall for answers. Now, it has been confirmed by Mr Seely that around 120 properties across the Island will indeed receive financial support. Flooded households can apply for up to £500 to give cash quickly to help with immediate costs, as well as at least 3 months of 100% council tax/business rate relief. Small-to-medium-sized businesses in affected areas will be eligible for up to £2,500 from the Business Recovery Grant to help them return quickly to business as usual. Furthermore, eligible flood-hit property owners will be able to apply for up to £5,000 to help make their homes and businesses more resilient to future flooding via the Property Flood Resilience Repair Grant Scheme. Those affected should contact the Isle of Wight Council for further information, which will be available in due course. Southern Water, the Environment Agency and Island Roads have been asked to attend a meeting in the New Year to provide answers on what happened, especially around the Monktonmead area of Ryde.

How big of them, this is just hush money to shut everyone up. £500 for a household is an insult and simply not enough.
Don’t be silly. This is to help until you get your insurance money through. The government didn’t have to give you anything.
Silly, try asking the locals there. You are the one being stupid.
Unfortunately, due to the incompetence of the environment agency and the Isle of Wight council, most people’s insurance is actually void. They will get nothing apart from what is offered and £500 with 3 months of council tax waived isn’t really very fair. They should offer at least a year of no council tax so that everyone can somehow afford to rebuild their homes and £500 until they pay out proper compensation for their mistake.
Who told you that? If there is any truth in this, you should sue IWC and EA.

Sounds good,but why has it taken so long?. Still don’t see any help from IOW Council whom are to blame as they coordinate and responsible for all( Inc fire service,who on mainland were not only pumping water they were also going house to house checking on residents and pets ,). All council are doing is two extra black bin bags and Council tax relief of couple hundred or so. Still not enough given this was predicted and preventable

MP and IW Clowns have missed the point again .. defences at properties are futile major flood defence systems are needed ..and If the council had dealt with drainage problems in advance .. then some of the floods would have been avoided .. but they did nothing ..
By the time they have set up a committee to hand out this desperately needed money there won’t be much left to actually give out and they will ensure you have to fill out reams of paperwork.
15 days it’s taken….some houses still have water in them! No help! Nothing! Lies and nothing!
Only found out last night (2 weeks later) that the water did in fact have sewage in it!
Let’s hope everyone ignored the lies about the safe water etc and no one gets sick!
If this flood happened during the night there would have been deaths! £500 does not help us sleep at night with idiots running the flood defences…… £500 is a insult to hundreds of people who have lost so so much!
